From water polo and baseball to tennis and lacrosse, in just the first few weeks of the spring season there have already been a handful of noteworthy team performances. Undefeated starts, bouncing back from losing seasons, and wins against rivals have quickly set the tone, proving that the year-long preparation is paying off.
First, coming off of a state championship, the Girls Water Polo team started their season with a 6-2 record, out-scoring their opponents 39-8 in a triple-header on Feb. 7. On the offensive end, senior captain Sophia Kingston is leading the way with 41 goals and 18 assists. Close behind is sophomore Emma Preston with 28 goals and 14 assists. On the defensive end, sophomore goalie Sofia Beltran is following up her Miami-Dade Water Polo Player of the Year season with a personal record of 9 saves per game along with 16 steals. Beltran has played for the Varsity team since 6th grade and has been the anchor of the defense throughout her high school career.
βIt [the season] has gone really well. This year we have a big number of new players and we have worked together with a lot of dedication to win all of our first 4 games. With this dedication I hope that our team will make it to the State Championship once again,β Beltran said.Β
Boys Lacrosse, with 9 seniors and over 7 starters leaving, was a top-20 team in the state. Itβs safe to say there were lots of question marks leading up to the season. However, the team won their first game in dominant fashion, beating Miami Palmetto 17-2 on Feb. 10. They also beat district rival Ransom Everglades 11-6 on Feb. 25. Since then however, they have dealt with numerous injuries, senior Brody Berger, and Miguel Di Mise, junior attacker Lucas Albert, and Trip Gettler are all starters out for at least a couple of games. Also, sophomore goalie Quinn Billups and junior defenseman Easton McCarthy Levy are both out for the season with ACL Tears.
βI think it was a good way to start the season and we definitely have a lot to clean up on but Iβm excited for what’s to come,β sophomore defender William Allen said.
Beyond the action on the lacrosse field, the baseball team is also making an early-season statement. The Raiders struggled last season, posting a 6-21 record between two head coaches. They were also missing senior shortstop Jacob Lombard for the majority of the season. Lombard is currently the number four prospect in the nation, and arguably the best player in the class of 2026. Recently, he won MVP honors in the 2025 All American Game and won a gold medal with

the 18U USA team. This season, they have started off 5-3. In their second game, senior catcher Darwin Vargas hit a walkoff to secure a 3-2 victory over Immaculata La-Salle. In their most recent showing, they dominated Lely 20-3.
That same early-season success is also shown on the tennis courts, with the girls’ team at a perfect 5-0 and the boys at 3-1. With only two seniors, the younger boys have stepped up, with singles wins from sophomores John Obrien and Nicolas Sacerdote as well as juniors Lorenzo Martinez and Martin Tessy. In doubles, senior Maximo Lopina and Obrien, along with Martinez and Sacerdote, also added wins.
βI think we’re a pretty strong team; these rankings came out, and we’re ranked as the eighteenth best high school in the nation for boys. Our main goal this year is to win the States more than anything, because we got pretty close last year,β Sacerdote said.
As for the girls, led by undefeated singles performances from sophomores Mika Lea Ringel and Hanna Matuk, and senior Sophia Harari, along with key doubles wins from pairs like Harari and sophomore Alexandra Leal and Aisha Alhuwalia and Presley Schwartz, the Raiders have showcased depth and consistency across the lineup.
