A team of students from the engineering, computer science, and business programs will create a robot to compete in the Recycle Rush competition sponsored by S.T.E.M on Feb. 25 in Ft. Lauderdale. The Recycle Rush is an obstacle course set to challenge the different competing teams to create machines or robots that are able to lift, grab, stack, and throw objects in the fastest time possible.
In preparation, students from the business and computer science programs have collaborated with the engineering team to design a successful robot for the event.
“Being able to consult for the robot and contribute to something special has been a great experience,”said sophomore Nicholas Atkison.
“The diversity allows us to be a more successful, we have different members that excel in each aspect we need for the competition,” said junior Christina Cancio.
The students have been gearing up for the event by staying late after school and working extra hours on the weekends. This year’s Recycle Rush competition marks the engineering program first in the event. Despite the inexperience in the event, the team is expecting a successful result.
“Since we are rookies in the event, we are just trying to prepare as much as possible and learn from our mistakes,” said Cancio.
After the Recycle Rush, the team hopes to compete in another S.T.E.M sponsored competition in Orlando later in the year.
