The Boys Water Polo team won their first match of the season by a score of 16-0 against Riviera Preparatory on Feb. 11 at home. Leading the boys in victory were senior Tyler Sanchez, junior Felipe Tilkian, and sophomore Caio Jordao.
“It was the perfect start to hopefully a tremendous season. I am really proud of my team and hope we can carry this momentum.” said Tilkian.
Tilkian made two goals out of the sixteen. Along with Tilkian, sophomores Fadl Cami and Sky Legrand scored a combined five goals. The boys’ constant preparation is going to be a big benefactor in their quest to maintain their title as state champions.
“This is just the start of our journey to repeat as state champions. It will be difficult but I am confident we can do it,” said Jordao.
The team had a hot start, taking a 1-0 lead within the first minute. Continuing their early momentum, the team scored nine goals in the first half, putting the win out of reach for Riviera.
“Once we gained confidence, there was no looking back,” said Chami.
The team now shifts focus to their next opponent, Miami Palmetto Senior High, on Feb. 18 at home.
