While many wear jewelry as an adornment others wear it for its significance. Such as the case with the Lokai bracelet.
Steven Izen, the founder of Lokai bracelets, created Lokai to help people relate to the highs and lows in life. The bracelet is assembled with 24 clear beads and one black and one white bead on opposing sides. The black bead holds mud from the Dead Sea and the white bead holds water from Mount Everest, which are the highest and lowest points on earth. Thus balancing the highs and lows of life. Lokai has gained popularity amongst students.
“When I first saw the bracelet I just thought it was cute, but now that I know the meaning I feel good being able to wear something with value and appeal,” said sophomore Bianca Beattie.
Most students wear the bracelets because of their simplistic beauty and don’t know the meaning behind them, but to others the meaning is the reason why they wear them.
“My mom is a yoga teacher and teaches me a lot about having balance in life. She gave me a Lokai bracelet for my birthday last year, and every time I’m stressed I look at my bracelet and remember that it’s a part of life to have ups and downs,” said junior, Nicole Mueller.
According to its website Lokai donates 10% of its profits to charitable services.
“It seems like it has the same Ying and Yang concept, which I find very beneficial to anyone trying to find balance in life,” said yoga teacher Alexis Zeman.
The bracelets can be found on the store’s website mylokai.com. Lokai is an example of jewelry being spiritually rich, not materially.
