Environmentalist Joseph Stilwell and former intern Liana Barros trace the storied history of Deering Estate and its diverse inhabitants—ranging from prehistoric mammals to Tequesta Native Americans, enslaved Africans, and Miami visitors. In so doing, they expose the chasm between the perception most hold of Miami as a city of neon, newness, and bustle, and the deep historical narratives of the city. They also guide viewers through the Estate’s various fabled buildings, noting their eerie feel, almost as though their stories are surfacing.
