From the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to backwards basketball jerseys, Raiders transformed campus into a scene straight out of a Halloween movie. As part of the Upper School’s annual Halloween festivities, students and teachers filled the halls with creativity, bringing a festive energy to every classroom.
The highlight of the day was the annual Halloween Costume Contest, led by Activities Director Celina Sosa and Student Government. The event featured categories including Most Creative Costume, Scariest Costume, Best Group Costume, Funniest Costume, Best DIY Costume, Best Movie/TV Character Costume, Best Historical or Literary Costume, and Best Overall.
“As the Activities Director, I absolutely love putting together the Halloween Costume Contest each year. Halloween and dressing up brings our community together in such a unique way because it gives students and faculty the chance to bond with people they might not usually spend time with,” Sosa said. “It’s also such a team effort to set up – from Donna Lee to our Maintenance crew, so many people pitch in to make it special. It’s great to see everyone let loose and be kids again for a day.”
Not only did Student Government help organize the event, but parents also volunteered to decorate the campus with cobwebs, pumpkins, and skeletons.

“The parent volunteers do a wonderful job decorating the school campus with decorating the school campus with halloween decor,” sophomore Christopher Allen said. “All the decorations like the Jack O’ Lanterns, ghosts and skeletons bring the Halloween spirit to the campus.”
While a majority of students dressed in classic costumes, teachers filled the atrium with creativity and spirit. The judges faced tough decisions in the Group Contest category as different departments competed against one another. Movie inspired themes dominated, with the math department dressing as characters from Encanto, athletics as characters from Netflix’s Wednesday, and communications and advancement team as characters from Harry Potter. Ultimately, the Math department ended up taking it home for the second consecutive year.
“The math department was very happy to keep the Halloween tradition going,” math teacher Monica Linke said. “As a department, we’re glad to encourage others to participate, because we always win! Personally, I had a great time building ‘Casita.’ I was able to work with my family, and we had a great time.”
