The Varsity Boys Soccer Team defeated Doral Academy on Friday, after a fierce match as both teams are leaders in the country.
The Varsity Boys Soccer Team beat the Firebirds in a 1 goal game. No goals were scored until the second half of the game in the third quarter. The goal was scored by senior and vice-captain, Tomas Sciarra after he was one on one with the goalie and kicked the ball in the bottom right corner.
“It was a good game and we started off strong. We had a few attempts at goal but nothing until the 3rd quarter where Tomas Sciarra scored. In the fourth quarter we had to defend hard,” senior and winger Bruce Alvarez said.
This game was important to many of the players due to the rankings of both teams. Both the Raiders and the Firebirds are ranked top ten nationally, the Raiders being 6th nationally. This put pressure on the boys to beat the team and stay undefeated.
Senior and center back David Rincon was awarded Man of the Match after his performance as a defender. With 0 goals conceded, he was one of the main players responsible for giving the Raiders the win.

“The game was our most competitive yet. We really had to work hard to make sure we got the win and the game was important because we were going against the #9 ranked teams in the country and one of the best in Florida and because we lost to them last year we needed the win this time around,” Rincon said.
The rivalry and competition did not slow down the team, as this was their 8th game on their win streak. Many of their players did well and kept the team spirit up.
“The boys came out to play on a Friday afternoon with a great crowd. They kept them to one to two opportunities of scoring. I would say we dominated the game. Senior David Rincon had a really great game for us in the back as a defender. Also, senior Tomas Sciarra scored the game winning goal with an assist from senior Rodrigo Navarro,” said Assistant Coach Federico Mor-Tatis.
The boys play again on Tuesday December 12th at Belen at 6:00 pm.
