This past Tuesday, the Gulliver Prep varsity softball team lost a home non-conference game against Archbishop McCarthy by a score of 2-0. The McCarthy Mavericks have a record of 8-4, while the Gulliver girls are 5-3, making this a disappointing home loss. The Mavericks are ranked 11th in the Florida 5A conference, while the Raiders are ranked 2nd in the 3A conference.

The game started off strong for the Raiders in the first inning, with a total of 28 base appearances by the girls. However, this did not result in a single run being scored.

“The team fought hard and had many attempts to score runs but we could not hit consistently,” junior and star pitcher Ajah Mallary commented on the game.

In the next inning, the Mavericks were able to get in the only two runs scored throughout the whole game. The next five innings would remain scoreless for both teams. Despite this recent loss, the team has another game today against St. Brendan and is looking towards improving their record. Mallary has a word of advice for the team, saying that they just needed to focus on the next game and improve on where they struggled in the past game.

Despite this loss, the girls softball team plans to bounce back and improve.

[update 3/26/21:] The team defeated St. Brendan 11-1 in their most recent game, Thursday.
