Season 5 of the massively popular Netflix series, Stranger Things arrived with Volume 1, marking the beginning of the show’s final chapter.
Season 5 Spoilers Ahead
Stranger Things, created by the Duffer Brothers, first premiered on Netflix in 2016 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. After nearly a decade of Demogorgans, trips to the Upside down and government secrets, the series is entering its final stretch with Season 5, Volume 1. This new season picks up where Season 4 left off, with Hawkins damaged, living under military control as the border between Hawkpins and the Upside Down weakens.
Volume 1, released on Nov. 26th, 2025 at 8p.m. EST includes the first four episodes of the season, with four more still to come.
This opening volume is very intense and emotionally heavy. Eleven is haunted by the consequences of her past and struggles with feeling powerful enough to stop Vecna. Will’s connection to the upside down grows stronger and becomes way more alarming, seeing actions through the demogorgons as if he is inside of them, sensing Vecna’s presence. Lucas remains devoted to Max, who is still unconscious, with some very heartbreaking scenes in this volume. Meanwhile, Dustin, Steve, Robin, Nancy and Jonathan work to protect what remains of Hawkins. With danger everywhere, the Duffer brothers don’t hold back in placing their main characters at serious risk. Vecna’s presence is felt strongly—every episode leaves you on the edge, wondering who is truly safe.
Character development is strong; fans will see the matured versions of the characters they met years ago. Each deals with trauma from their past while trying to confront the biggest threat yet. Relationships are strained, friendships are tested, and the emotional bonds are stronger than ever. This season reminds viewers of the importance of Mike, Eleven, Will, Dustin, and Lucas’s group’s connection and why it’s so important, alongside Hop, Joyce, Steve, Robbin, Nancy, and Jonathan.

As in previous seasons, the cinematography is outstanding. The special effects and contrast between Hawkins and the Upside Down is fascinating but also disturbing. Paired with an 80’s soundtrack, the season gives off a nostalgic feel while still keeping a serious tone.
The final episode of Volume 1 is very suspenseful, with Eleven finding Eight in a lab within the Upside Down, and Will discovers he can control demogorgons with his powers, leaving fans on a cliffhanger for Volume 2 and 3 of Season 5. Final battles are approaching and it is unclear who will be making it out alive. Some devastation may occur, but on Dec. 25th when Volume 2 comes out and Dec. 31st when Volume 3 comes out, fans will see the final chapter of Stranger Things.
