On Wednesday, Mar. 9, the Gulliver Water Polo team won both their senior day games against Palmetto.

The girls beat Palmetto by 23-0 and the boys beat them 22-3. Before both games, both the girls and the boys team had a ceremony to celebrate the seniors that will be leaving for college next school year.

“I loved the senior day ceremony. It was a bittersweet moment and it opened my eyes to how much the teams mean to me” said senior and team captain Nick Aday, “Being team captain is something I’m proud to say with my chest. I’ll stand by my team through everything and I know they’ll do the same for me.”

The season is almost reaching its postseason, the girls are currently 7-5 and the boys are 8-4. The boys team has gone through some changes since last year’s starting team were all seniors.

“We lost a lot of starters from last year, so it’s like starting over. We have a lot of talented players and a lot of brand new players, so we are trying to bring them all together to achieve our goal which is to win States,” said Coach Carroll Vaughan.

With 6 goals and 3 steals, senior Parker Rosenthal was one of the players that stood out against Palmetto.

“I believe that we had a really good game against Palmetto, the team played really well together and I could definitely see improvements compared to last time we played” said Rosenthal. “I consider this to be one of my best games of the season so far since I got 6 goals and 3 steals.”

One of the players from the girls team that stood out against Palmetto was the goalkeeper, senior Margaret Miao. Miao kept the clean sheet, making 2 saves, one of them being a 5-meter shot.

“It was exhilarating! I’m very proud of my teammates and seeing them score goals. We definitely grew as a team. We took what we learned from past games and applied them in this one” commented Miao. “I also had the pleasure of blocking a five meter which is very exciting.”

Their next games will be in the Gulliver Invitational tournament, which will take place next week, March 18-19, at the Upper School.
