Commentary | Jaguars vs. Dolphins Disappointment
October 24, 2021
The underwhelming Miami Dolphins lost their fifth straight game in a row to the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars. This was most definitely the most disappointing loss of their season. With playoff hopes last year, the Dolphins are now a bottom five team in the NFL. The Jacksonville Jaguars had the second biggest losing streak in NFL history, but broke the streak on the Dolphins.
The Dolphins offensive coordinators have been highly ineffective when it comes to calling plays. The Fins only scored 20 points this game, when they had possession of the ball longer than the Jaguars. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa wasn’t disappointing in his first game, throwing over 300 yards and 2 passing touchdowns to his former Alabama teammate Jaylen Waddle. What made the Dolphins offense unsuccessful was the run game, with an offensive line that simply did not block well. Tagovailoa threw under pressure for more than half of the snaps he received.
The Dolphins defense was also very unsuccessful against the Jaguars and did not resemble last year’s performance: the turnover ratio that they have now looks like a totally different team this season. The Dolphins have to win quickly, and this makes the upcoming game against the Atlanta Falcons at home a good opportunity to do so.
Head Coach Brian Flores and Offensive Coordinator Chris Grieir might lose their jobs this season if there is no faith with this team moving forward. To keep their jobs, there were rumors that Deshaun Watson, three-time pro-bowler might make his way to Miami. There is no doubt that Watson is a better quarterback than Tua; the question is whether Watson will touch the field again in the wake of 22 accusations of assault and sexual misconduct. The Fins should make moves quick and fix this discouraging season that they are having, because fans are not liking it.
