On Jan 15. The Brazilian club hosted the second annual soccer juggling competition in the Atrium where students could showcase their soccer skills for victory and bragging rights.
“I decided to see if I can make this a tradition since soccer is such a big part of our community here. I said why not try to continue but not to have a preset people but open to anyone that likes the sport especially our soccer team as well. So yeah it was great.” Portuguese teacher and Brazilian club sponsor, Andrea Evans said.
The juggling competition wasn’t just a soccer competition however, it also gave a chance for other students to participate in something they loved.
“As not every kid from Brazil, not every kid is on the soccer team so besides being in either one of these categories they can still express themselves and their passion for the sport as well,” Evans said.
When first hearing about the event, administrators thought it would be a great opportunity for students to come together as a community and connect between classes.
“My first thought was like oh fun! I love the idea, Mrs. Evans is the one who created this whole thing… When she came to me with the idea I thought it was a great idea. I thought it would be something fun to do,” Activities Director, Celina Sosa said.
“I think that anything that we do, even if it’s a fifteen-minute activity like that, is beneficial because it has a moment where we come together. Like there are teachers, there’s faculty, there’s admin, there’s students. So any moment that we can do something together is beneficial,” Sosa said.
Both faculty and students are in agreement with this fun event and are excited about this new school tradition.
“The event was the talk of the day for the remainder of the school day, it’s a clever event and surely the students want it to happen again,” assistant soccer coach,Federico Mor-Tatis said.
