In late September, it was announced that popular Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny— formally known as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio—will be performing at the upcoming Super Bowl LX halftime show. The superstar is set to become the first Latin male artist, respectively, to headline this event. He is set to achieve this feat on Feb. 8th, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. There has been considerable debate among students about whether he is the right choice for this role.
The decision to propel Bad Bunny to this role wasn’t much of a shocker to some, as Bad Bunny is one of the most admired singers of this generation with hits such as “Titi Me Pregunto,” “La Cancion,” “Dakiti,” and many more.
“Honestly, it’s pretty cool. I didn’t expect it, but it makes sense because Bad Bunny is huge right now,” sophomore Ariana Sagrera said.

One issue that students are having with Bad Bunny performing at the halftime show, is that his music is predominantly in Spanish. This is causing some worry among students, as most of America’s population does not speak the language.
“I think [Bad Bunny’s music] only resonates with a specific group [of Americans], as the majority of the people like myself do not speak Spanish, which will make it harder for us to understand and enjoy the music,” sophomore Eduardo Cerqueira said.
One benefit, according to [Sports Illustrated] is that Bad Bunny’s performance will spur more of the Latin community to watch the Super Bowl, and eventually the sport of American football at large.
“I believe that this is going to have a much bigger effect on the sport than people think, as Bad Bunny is one of the most popular artists in the country, which is going to increase the viewership of not only the sport but the NFL as a whole,” sophomore Victor Estrella said.
Some students also emphasized the sense of pride they feel in having a Latin artist headline at the Super Bowl halftime show.
“This news makes me feel more represented and is a big deal for not only me as a Latina, but the community overall,” Sagrera said.
