Spanish teacher Nelvis Calderin’s classroom was abuzz on Sept. 26 during the “La Casita de Señora” event— a Bad Bunny-themed party. Students and faculty celebrated Puerto Rican culture through authentic food, games, and music. Calderin’s students also interviewed Puerto Rican faculty, learning more about their experiences and culture.
0“It was a wonderful way for my Spanish 3 students to be immersed in the Hispanic language and culture,as well as offering a real-life opportunity to practice their skills, and Bad Bunny is an artist that the students connect with and relate to.”
According to Calderin, she chose the “Bad Bunny” theme due to the artist’s impact on the Hispanic community.

“He has highlighted our language and our culture,” Calderin said.
Junior Chase Samole said he enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the theme choice.
“My favorite Bad Bunny song is ‘Baile Inolvidable,’” Samole said. “The song tells a story of nostalgia and connection, emotions I felt during this event.”
Along with Samole, the festive atmosphere resonated sophomore Quinn Billups, who also said that he felt inspired when he walked into the classroom, heard the music and saw all of the decorations.
“It was interesting and cool to see the connection…Even people who don’t speak Spanish like me sing his [Bad Bunny’s] music,” Billups said.
