Coming off a highly prolific 8th grade season, freshman Eric Macedo looks to continue his passion and dominance for swimming throughout the rest of the season.
“I have been swimming for my whole life so I think that’s what gives me such an advantage over the rest of my competition,” Macedo said.
In addition to this Macedo has been swimming competitively since he was 8 years old which helped him hone his skills for a long period of time. This practice eventually paid off as he earned himself a spot at states last year for the 100m backstroke.
“I think making states for that event in particular was really rewarding as it’s one of my favorites.” Macedo said.
With Macedo being a freshman on the high school team his hard work doesn’t go unnoticed especially with his teammates who truly value his presence and commitment to the program.
“He’s dedicated to his craft, and a great teammate to everyone else,” junior Landon Eskra said.
Even though he made states for the 100m backstroke last season he still hopes to improve his time this year.
“Even when I find myself in a difficult situation, for instance not getting the time that I want. I learn to persevere through it and work harder in the future,” Macedo said.

These sets of values are extremely important to Macedo as he strives to carry them out in his daily life.
“I think what I truly love about this sport is the comradery, and how everyone is so supportive of one another,” Macedo said.
Macedo’s game has also gained the attention of out of school clubs where he got the privilege to compete in a nationwide tournament in Orlando last season.
“The tournament was a great way of meeting new people and creating friendships through the sport,” Macedo said.
Macedo’s love for the game is beyond the average swimmer which truly sets him apart from the rest of the pack. He aims to qualify for two events in states this year. So keep an eye out for this young talent in the pool.
