On Feb. 7, Prepcast hosts Tommy Thornton and Kate Caballero had the opportunity to do a live one-on-one conversation with rising English pop star and actress Freya Skye. Though only 15 years old, Skye has already made waves in the music industry with songs like “Walk Over” and is set to star in Disney’s new movie Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.
“I feel so grateful for my team at Disney. I feel I have a voice with them, it’s unreal. Disney is so renowned. From watching movies like Big Hero 6, which is one of my favorites, it’s an honor for them to guide and help me with my career,” Skye said.
Skye received her big break during the 2022 Junior Eurovision competition where she shocked fans with her voice and talent, launching her into a new level of stardom.
“After the success at Eurovision, whenever I go across Europe, people will see me and come up to me. It felt odd at first being that I was so young but I got used to it,” Skye said.
It wasn’t always a clear path to fame for her, so when the world shut down in 2020, Skye used the time in isolation to her advantage, honing in on her craft.
“I thought let’s just see what happens! It’s crazy, I didn’t think much of it. I watch videos now and I can tell you the talent was not there at first,” Skye said.
During the pandemic, Skye took various opportunities which fostered her love for different forms of performing arts.
“There was never an exact moment when I found my love,” Skye said, “ In terms of acting, during the lockdown, I fell in love with acting. I took some acting classes because I had nothing to do and it opened the door for me to do Junior Eurovision,” Skye said.
Skye tries to not let her fame impact her personal life or her hobbies. Even though, as a singer, she is constantly around music she doesn’t let herself become burnt out.
“Music is my hobby anytime I have spare time. I’m just messing around with an instrument. I also don’t do things in secret, I always go out with my friends; my family keeps me grounded, from manners to morals, they always make sure I’m good,” Skye said.
Being a young artist herself, she had a few words to say to people like her around the world trying to make it in the industry,
“It took me too long to learn rejection is redirection, sometimes the project won’t work out, you have to remember that every no is one step closer to a yes,” Skye said.
Finally, Skye gave a little sneak peek at her character in the new movie the direction of the movie, and the overall “Zombies” franchise.
“It really flows well with the other movies but it’s a fresh and new take on the franchise; The Nova at the beginning and end are completely different,” Skye said.
Whether it be music, movies, or both Skye is looking to make waves her own way and not let her her stardom affect her.
