The Raider Cafe, the new addition to the Academic Building, has received positive feedback from students and teachers alike. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, the cafe offers a variety of food options that also accommodate allergies and dietary needs. Sage Dining worked with a nutritionist and also polled the student body before deciding on the new menu options.
“Everything that is on the menu has been approved by a nutritionist that works with our company. We watch out for all the top allergens,” Assistant Food Director Diana Aragon said.
According to the student poll, which Sage sent out via email to students in March, showed that dairy intolerance was one of the primary concerns. To address this, Sage offers oat milk and soy. Aragon explained they do offer almond milk due to possible nut allergies. However, they offer many items that are dairy free, including smoothies.
“The smoothies feature dairy-free options like the Green Machine,“ Aragon said.
Raider Cafe staff member, Fernando Lara also mentioned that nut allergies were taken into consideration, as well as gluten sensitivity.
“The bread and pastries do not have nuts and the bread for the sandwiches served at lunch are gluten free,” Lara said.
By taking allergies, dietary restrictions and preferences into account, the Raider Cafe offers a variety of choices for the school community. Visual Arts Department Chair Stacy Goldman, who is vegan, said she is looking forward to trying some of the vegan options..
”The only thing I have tried there is fruit because mostly I bring my own food from home, I know that they have smoothies and that some of their smoothies are vegan so I am interested in trying them,” said Goldman.
With plans to introduce seasonal menu items throughout the year, the Raider Cafe aims to keep customers coming back for more.
