On the outside, the new iPhone 16 looks identical to previous iPhones. The camera lens, the models, and size which may make one think there is nothing special with Apple’s latest model. However, with more advanced processors, AI features and a camera on par with a DSLR, the iPhone 16 is more developed than any recent cell phone. Despite these features, the iPhone has not been flying off the shelves, leaving some wondering why.
Broadcast teacher and Apple enthusiast Zach Garrett has been an Apple user for over 15 years and is amazed by the iPhone’s new additions.
“The camera quality has improved significantly both in the software side, but for the hardware side itself, the image sensor and also the optics itself has improved. The internal processor is also faster. It’s the latest generation processor that uses the three nanometer technology so they’re able to pack more transistors in,” Garrett said.
With the new processors, everything in the phone moves faster and makes things such as camera quality better. For somebody such as Garrett, who said he constantly takes photos and videos, the new camera button and camera features has made his life much easier.
“It’s a more crisp shot. It’s a more stable shot. It’s not as shaky. And that’s just one feature. But like you’re talking about the ability to get a super low aperture. And, and the ISO range is wider, like, there’s just so many things that are different,” Garrett said.
While the camera features are a main difference from past Apple phones, another feature of the new iPhone is Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence highlights Apple’s partnership with Open AI such as Chat GTP. According to Apple, features of Apple Intelligence include proofreading emails and other writing, generating images and new additions to Siri. Apple Intelligence will make its debut with the release of the iOS 18.1 which is scheduled to release on Oct. 28.
In an article from “WIRED” magazine, The Top New Features in Apple’s iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, “This [Apple Intelligence] is Apple’s implementation of artificial intelligence-powered tasks that have been sweeping through the tech industry over the past year. Even Siri is getting a much-needed upgrade—the biggest since the voice assistant’s debut 13 years ago.”
Students who have purchased the iPhone 16 since its release are enjoying the new features the new iPhone has to offer.
“It’s really impressed me with its features and how much better the camera quality is, but overall I like the Phone because of its new updates and being able to edit my homescreen,” Freshman Ari Candib said.
Considering how new Apple Intelligence is, some might prefer to wait on getting the new iPhone.
“There’s normally a heavy amount of bugs like this. So normally it’s not a good idea to buy the latest and greatest iPhone unless it’s like it’s like in the second or third generation of that iPhone. So Apple Intelligence just arrived on scene and they debuted with the Apple with the 16. So technically if you can wait you should wait for the 17,” IT Support Specialist Aaron Gray said.
