Seniors kicked off their final year of high school with an early morning gathering at Matheson Hammock Park & Marina on Aug. 13. The Class of 2025 reunited at 6:30 am, watching the sunrise together and eagerly anticipating the start of the 2024-25 school year.
“It was a bittersweet feeling catching up with all my friends at the event — a perfect way to kick off our final year and unite as a class,” senior Malena Pisoni said.
The event, a long-standing school tradition known as Senior Sunrise, was organized by Student Government and the Parents Association. Over three weeks of preparation went into ensuring the gathering would bring the class together in a meaningful and memorable way.
“I alongside other [Student Government] members collaborated with the Parents Association to make sure that every detail was perfect. It was challenging but incredibly rewarding,” Senior Class President Kayla Alonso said.
Members of the Parents Association played a significant role in the event’s success, setting up decorations at the marina entrance and providing treats for the seniors to enjoy. Despite concerns about the weather, which caused issues in previous years, this year’s gathering took place under ideal conditions according to Alonso.
Andreína Senior, a member of the Parents Association, praised the senior Student Government members for their professionalism and collaboration, highlighting how they approached the planning process with diligence and carefully arranged all aspects well in advance.
“We met at a local restaurant as well as exchanged countless emails to make sure everything was just right,” Senior said.
This year’s sunrise gathering, more than just a long-lasting tradition, marked the final stretch of seniors’ high school journey.
“I hope the other events that the Parents Association and Student Government have in store for us will be as fun as today,” Pisoni said. “I’m excited to see what lies ahead this school year.”
