On Saturday, July 11, assistant coach Hossam Marquez was announced as the new Boys’ Varsity Basketball head coach for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
“We are confident that Coach Marquez’s leadership will continue to elevate our basketball program,” Athletic Director Andre Torres said. “His commitment to fostering personal and athletic growth, and instilling values of teamwork and perseverance will greatly benefit our student-athletes.”
With over 15 years of experience coaching at the Blue Dungeon, Marquez is passionate about the game of basketball, consistently striving to help the players reach their full potential.
“I think Hossam [Marquez] was the only other person I could see coaching this team. His energy and love for the game brings it all together. The way he cares for his players and how close he is with them is like no other,” assistant varsity coach Justin Drickler said.
With this amount of experience, Marquez has had a long-standing
relationship with many of the players on his roster, knowing some of them since they were much younger.
“Coach Marquez has coached me since I was six years old and tremendously influenced my love for the sport. He knows how much it means to all of us and knows that we want to make it far so he has high expectations for all of us.” senior point guard Walker Allen said.
The Raiders come off of last season with a record of 18-9, winning both the district championship and the first round of regionals in an absolute thriller against Cardinal Gibbons before eventually falling to the Mater Lakes Academy Bears in the semi-final round of regionals.
With earning the district title last year, the Raiders look to continue to dominate with their goals remaining the same as they march closer to late November.
“Competition all around the Miami area is good, but I think we’re able to handle anything. I’m looking forward to what should be a good season,” Drickler said.
