The girls and boys water polo team came together to watch the United States women’s national water polo team play on Dec. 9 at the Ransom Everglades pool.
Ransom hosted a scrimmage where the United States women’s national water polo team played against the Spain women’s national water polo team. The game mentally helped prepare the Raiders for their season according to water polo coach, Carrol Vaughn.
“Watching a very high level team communicate, respect one another and enjoy playing the game together is very motivating. Having our very own Riptides player, Ashleigh, back home to her roots playing right before our eyes makes us see and know how hard work pays off,” Vaughn said.
Watching two national water polo teams play was an exciting experience for student-athletes like junior and water polo captain, Kathleen Serig.
“I think having the opportunity to watch the national team play was incredible. They were extremely athletic and mesmerizing to watch. As a high school player it was an unforgettable experience,” Serig said.
The event served as an important team building outing for the Raiders according to junior Julia Fogel.
“These types of experiences help us build chemistry and a bond which helps us be more connected in the water and we’re more in sync with each other when passing and shooting,” junior Julia Fogel said.
With the spring sports season right around the corner, the girls and boys water polo teams aim high in hopes of bringing back the State Championship title to the Upper School.
“I’m looking forward to this season. I feel like the boys are all very motivated to make an impact and win States this year,” senior and captain Gabe Lewis said. “Winning the State ring will be the best way to end my high school career. It is our ultimate goal,” he added.
