Students gathered in the Blue Dungeon for the annual Homecoming Dance Saturday night..
Students anticipated the dance after public Homecoming proposals, Spirit Week events, and the Homecoming football game. The gym was decorated in the theme, “Time Travel” with a replica of a time machine, pictures from the famous movie “Back to the Future,” balloons, and glitter, making students feel as if they were part of the movie. For seniors, it was bittersweet knowing that this would be their last Homecoming dance.
“I loved getting ready with my friends, and being able to share this experience with them because this is one of the last we’ll experience together,” senior Mora de Maria said. “Homecoming was a really nice way to have fun and make memories with them.”
Ninth graders especially looked forward to the dance after participating in the spirited week leading up to it.
“It was everything we expected,” freshman Amanda Lasen said. “We had a really good time being with each other, dancing, eating, taking pictures, and having fun.”
A few hours into the night, freshman rapper FatCat (Darriel Cannon), took to the stage for a surprise performance of his most popular songs.
“I love performing my songs because I am proud of them and doing that in front of my classmates was exciting,” Cannon said. “I liked seeing my friends there supporting me, but also some people that I have never met that still were singing the songs.”
Along with FatCat’s performance and dancing, another major part of the evening was the food trucks, which included tacos, ice cream and milkshakes, to name a few.
“I loved that there was good food because after all the dancing and singing I got hungry, and the food was delicious,” junior Alessandra Di Misse said. “I think that having sweet and savory options was a great way to give students a choice of what they wanted to eat.”
