The girls varsity volleyball team remain undefeated this regular season after their comeback win—down 2 sets— against Palmer Trinity last Friday.
The regular season victory followed their recent participation against the 96 most elite high school teams in the country at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Tampa, Fla. The group remains confident for the rest of the season, placing 3rd place in the tournament’s highest division despite losing senior Hailey Brenner to an ankle injury in the first game.
“We only lost one game during the tournament; mistakes were made during that game that won’t be repeated again for the rest of the season,” varsity middle blocker Mica Navarro said. “Nonetheless, I am confident in the group after solidifying ourselves as one of the top teams in the country.”
Senior Jackie Taylor’s 45 kill, 10 block tournament performance emphasized her leadership role on the squad; Taylor significantly contributed to the team’s recent success.
“The Volleyball Nike Tournament of Champions was a confidence booster for the group— a feeling that will continue throughout the rest of the season,” Sports Information Director Federico Mor said. “I know they will be looking to improve and reach states during the postseason after their fall last season in the Regional tournament.”
The girls Varsity Volleyball team faces long-lasting rival Ransom Everglades in their home court tomorrow at 7pm, hoping to maintain their hot streak on the court.
“We have what it takes to be state champions— let’s make all those hours in practice count and be as consistently dominant as we have been for the rest of the season, ” junior setter Ana Garcia said.
