How Miami Is a Strategic Asset

The Miami Metropolitan Area lies host to a multitude of strategic assets in both civilian and military infrastructure. One piece of critical infrastructure is the Turkey Point Power Station supplying power to over 900,000 homes. 

A shutdown and a nuclear attack on this would be catastrophic, not only for the impact of  nuclear radiation but the impact it destruction would have on the entire power grid of Florida which was shown in the 2008 shut down of the plant. The United States Southern Command, or SOUTHCOM is stationed out of Homestead Airforce Base as well. United States Southern Command comprises the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and several more federal agencies. Its role is to provide effective command and control and ensure American strategic and military interests in all Central and South America as well as the Caribbean.
