Olivia Johnson’s Impact on Homeless Dogs and Cats
As a young girl, Olivia Johnson often witnessed homeless animals roaming the streets of her native country, Ecuador. This summer she decided to do something about it.
“I have had a true love for both dogs and cats ever since I was little, so when the opportunity arose to help these strays which I grew up seeing on the streets of Mompiche, I knew that I needed to help in any way possible,” Johnson said.
Junior Olivia Johnson volunteered on a mission to aid these homeless animals on August 2. During the intense day-long mission, Olivia worked alongside Fabiola Minda, an animal rescuer, to help a total of 43 cats and 20 dogs. She especially enjoyed meeting each animal and forming individual bonds with them.
“I made connections with many of the animals. I especially enjoyed forming a friendship with a mut named ‘Pablito,’ a german shepherd,” Johnson said.
Not only did she engage with each and every animal, but Johnson also busied herself in other, more strenuous activities.
“ I occupied myself with cleaning and feeding many of the dogs. I also spent time restocking the dog food and the multiple donated supplies. Needless to say, I was very tired after my time there,” Johnson said.
Despite the strenuous and tiring tasks, Olivia was quite sad to leave after her time with these loving creatures.
“Saying goodbye to the dogs and cats was especially difficult. I never imagined that I could grow so close to these animals in such a short amount of time,” Johnson said.
Olivia Johnson truly made a difference in the lives of each and every one of the animals.
